Evidence is how iconic Alex became not as a character, but as a look--at least part of that was Kubrick's invention. I tend to gravitate to others of his films more, but from a purely "how well-made is this film" question, he never got better than this one.<br /><br />Kubrick's inclusion on the list starts, as you mention, with <i>Paths of Glory</i>.
